At the links above you will find a wealth
of comprehensive information regarding the community.
In the meantime here
is a quick summary:
Big Canoe is a gated
community, located on the borders of Dawson and Pickens counties in the
North Georgia Mountains, approximately 1 hour north of Atlanta. The entire community is nestled between seven
mountains, and encompasses nearly 8000 acres.
Big Canoe has several lakes, a boat
marina, a swim club with beach and 2 outdoor pools, community chapel,
outdoor concert ampitheatre, state-of-the-art fitness center with indoor pool/aerobics/tennis/squash,
outdoor tennis complex, miles of hiking and
jeep trails, a scout hut, organized youth and adult sports, children's
playground, ball field, basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball field,
wildflower meadows with walking trails, dozens of community organizations
(garden club, woodcarvers, bridge, women's & men's guild, wildflower group, sowing club, hiking club,
fishing clubs, artist association and dozens more - all adding to the
community feel & social interaction within Big Canoe), 7 local restaurants, 27 holes of
Golf & a new $11 Million Golf
Clubhouse, animal rescue organization,
private fire dept., community maintained roads, a private security force,
and its own very professional & award winning newspaper - all of this within
the community gates. Outside the gates is the nearby Foothills Shopping &
Grocery center which services the community - and the recently opened Shops
@ The North Gate Station.
I could go on and on, but I will close with
the following - Big Canoe is basically a self supporting community region,
offering many (or more) of the cultural benefits one might expect in a north
Atlanta suburb, yet with the peaceful natural surroundings of the mountains,
and good neighborly community values.
Please come visit our peaceful community – a
great place to Vacation, Retire, Invest, or Raise a Family.
