AMENITIES - Scout Hut
Years ago, a Big Canoe individual donated $10,000 to
build a scout hut for the community and surrounding area. Our current
Dawson county commissioner, Bill Saling latched onto leading the vision, and
donations of labor and supplies poured in. Today the Scout Hut hosts Boy
Scout, Cub Scout, Tiger Scout, Venture Club, Girls Scout and Brownie troop
activities. An additional future plan for the site is to utilize a
portion of it part-time as a HAM Radio center. Already several scouts
have earned their radio badges from local Ham operators. A lot of the
community children find this a weekly center for activities, education and
socialization. The Hut was closed the day I drove by - and I promise to update
photos - because this is an important community location for children.
